Cannabis Cultivation Permits Get Green Light

With a 3-2 vote, the Carson City Council has approved the first two permits for cannabis cultivation.

In 2016, voters approved a commercial cannabis tax with Measure KK. The following year, the council voted to allow four indoor commercial cannabis centers to be authorized within the city.

The city received six permit applications, and at the Sept. 4 meeting the council approved two of those permits. Councilmembers Cedrick L. Hicks and Lula Davis-Holmes opposed. The approved operators are Focal Strategic Investments, LLC, with a site at 17505 S. Main St.

and California Green with a property at 2403 E. 223rd St.

Cannabis tax revenue to the City from each commercial cannabis center is estimated to be up to $1 million in the first year of operation, $1.25 million in the second, and $1.75 million in the third.
