2023 Sai Momoli Civic Excellence Award Ceremony

Carson Accountability & Transparency is proud to present the 2023 Sai Momoli Civic Excellence Award to Gil Smith for his several decades of service and dedication to the City of Carson. A celebration and presentation of the award will be held at the Dominguez Rancho Adobe Museum on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at 11am.

Gilbert Smith has spent his life serving the residents and City of Carson. He helped found the City of Carson in 1968 and served as one of the first Council Members. He is notably the City's first African-American Mayor serving in that role from 1970-1971 and again from 1974-1975. Gil was also pivotal in helping found California State University, Dominguez Hills, which opened in 1968. His extensive volunteer experience extends across the City where he has served several organizations and causes, including CSUDH, the Dominguez Rancho Adobe Museum, the United Way, the American Red Cross, the Emergency Preparedness Commission for L.A. County, and with many more.

Docents will be available for tours of this California landmark offering a firsthand look at this piece of Carson history.

Food and drinks will be provided.
