Q:

Please highlight your community involvement, including any previous appointments or elected offices held, volunteer work or other leadership positions. How have these roles prepared you to lead the City of Carson as Council Member?

A:

I am currently on the Economic Development Commission and previously with the Public Safety Commission.  I am the Chairperson of the Annual City of Carson Filipino American History Month Planning Committee (October 2021). I am a Trustee and Recorder of the Philippine Independence Day Foundation’s Annual Festival, City of Carson’s Friendship Day Festival, Long Beach Bacolod Association Masskara Festival, Sister Cities Soka Japan.  I am the Masters of Ceremony at the above events.  These roles have prepared me to listen, learn and work with the community in a positive environment.  I have established relationships with the city’s stakeholders, large and small businesses, local and global talents as well as work with our city government, service workers, law enforcement and volunteers who help in putting these events together.  This is positive experience allows me to serve as well as protect the community in my “own backyard” as I have already accomplished in my 31 years as a law enforcement public service.

Q:

What does Transparency mean to you, and how will you ensure Carson’s city government is accountable to its residents?

A:

Transparency is my term for my “open door policy” in government.   The corporate business community and the public should work together with city officials when making/changing policies within the city government.  The corporate business community should also be aware of what is happening, first hand, and have an input in all policies within the city government.  I have spent 31 years in an organization where the level of “transparency” is being constantly tested.  As your council member, I will continue to display a level of respect and allow an open door policy relationship with my community.

Q:

Carson was able to pass a structurally balanced budget for the first time in years, how do you plan to maintain this balanced budget?

A:

As your council member, I will continue to implement the” common sense approach” that the City should not spend more money that they take in.  I have learned that the City needs to reduce expenses paid to legal and other professional consultants, legal settlements and other unnecessary expenses.

Q:

What specific policies will you advocate that will benefit the residents of Carson?

A:

My policy would be to increase transparency within the city government, increase accountability and acknowledgement of who and why some decisions are made without a consensus.  I will use my training and experience in problem solving and improve and/or change the relationship between employees and city management in order for the rest of the community to trust and respect our city government leaders.
